Our two static benches (with ‘swinging field orientation’ and purpose built ‘busbar’) enable us to test components up to 12 feet in length.
We can handle large batch quantities of bar stock (racking to house 200 tonnes), forgings and finished components.
We have an adaptable and experienced work force, who fully comprehend customers’ requirements relating to short lead times that are industry led. Utilising efficient teamwork practices and adaptable shift patterns we can quickly process individual projects to meet all possible deadlines.
The operation can be undertaken both at the purpose built facilities at our West Midlands facility or on site at the clients location. The West midlands testing facility offers state of the art testing via a modern, purpose built water washable NDT system allowing for efficient and cost effective testing of large batch quantities. On site testing can be undertaken by means of Dye penetrant testing using red dye colour contrast - this is used mainly for the inspection of castings, forgings and welds etc.
Dye Penetrant Testing is used for the detection of surface breaking defects in all non-porous ferrous and non-ferrous materials of any size including metals, plastics and ceramics.
Typical applications would be forged, cast or welded components which suffer from a high risk of cracking and other surface flaws.
Ultrasonic sound waves are typically introduced into the item under test via an ultrasonic source, coupling media and hand held probe. As the sound travels through the item, reflected echoes return from the back surface and any internal discontinuities will reflect the sound, generating a signal identified on the monitor. The thickness of a material and location/distance of any present flaws can also be determined via calculation of the echo time lags recorded.
NDT Midlands can perform in house testing on smaller components or on site utilising the very latest portable, fully calibrated, flaw detectors - our highly skilled technicians manually scan the components using high frequency sound waves.
